to the senate after all the criticism that she got from john mccain and lindsey graham and other key republican senators after her appearance on the sunday shows talking about the incident in benghazi. they were so angry because they say she disseminated false information about the causes of that attack. we all know the story there. we don't need to rehash it. she was given these talking points by the intelligence community. she was merely saying what they had instructed her to say. but the senators, these republican senators blamed her for using them when they say she knew they were false. she has clearance, security clearance, she had access to what had actually happened, or at least the best judgment for the classified material at that time. be that as it may, she made that trip up to capitol hill. john mccain, lindsey graham still rather forthright in their opposition, but really raised a red flag with the white house was a moderate like susan collins or bob corker expressing serious reservations. while not saying they would oppose any nomination were to it come. one of the strangest things

." the president caved after months of republican attacks led by senators john mccain, lindsey graham and kelly ayotte on u.n. ambassador susan rice focusing on her scripted television appearances following the benghazi tragedy today ambassador rice withdrew her name from consideration to be nominated for secretary of state. in an interview with brian williams, rice pointed to the distraction the republican attacks have caused. >> today i made the decision that it was the best thing for our country for the american people that i not continue to be considered by the president for nomination as secretary of state because i didn't want to see a confirmation process that was very prolonged very politicized, very distracting and very disruptive because there are so many things we need to get done, as a country. and the first several months of the second term president's agenda is really the opportunity to get the crucial things done. we're talking about comprehensive immigration reform balanced deficit reduction, job creation, t

. >> jon: she knew that was bull (bleep) at the time. what would a john mccain or lindsey graham say about a woman like that's qualifications for secretary of state? >> to attack her personally is way over the line because she is our face and voice to the world and you're not doing any american any good by sending her off with such labels. >> but i think it's very clear that condoleezza rice is a person of integrity. and yes, i see this -- some lingering bitterness over a very tough campaign. i hope it dissipates soon. >> jon: oh, i'm sure it will. what kind of crotchety "grand torinoish" old (bleep) would be able to get over a simple campaign loss? it's unimaginable. (laughter) so why is john mccain doing this? (cheers and applause) well, the congressional black caucus representative marcia fudge-- that's right, you heard me-- (laughter) marcia. (laughter) actually, congresswoman fudge is one of our nation's most hardworking and i can only assume delicious congress people. (laughter) she had a theory about ambassador rice. >> any time something goes wrong they pick on women and minorities

and i'm sorry i voted for this man because he has no spine whatsoever. lindsey graham or john mccain? really? i'm sorry i voted for this man. >> bill: don't be sorry you voted for him. i think this is a fight he could have won. i think it's a wishfight he should have fought >> caller: he is weak and it's like the first time when he caved on the single pair. >> bill: we have seen him cave before. i love him. but i am not going to hesitate to say when he is wrong. i think he is wrong. i saw him. i was at that news conference right after the election when somebody asked him about susan rice and he was on fire. he came out and he said, don't mess with her. if you have a problem, mess with me. i think they thought it would cost too much political capitol. a lot of people said look, president obama should not waste too much political capitol on susan rice. i kept saying no no, no. he's got to fight this fight. he decided not to. i think it's a big mistake. veronica in onianta, new york. >> hi, bill how is it going? okay. number one, first of all, the repub

. the triumvirate of john mccain, joe lieberman and lindsey graham. welcome back to all three of you. you said you just got re-elected, this is to president obama, how about doing something big that is not liberal? how about doing something big that is really is bipartisan? every big idea he has is a liberal idea that drowns us in debt. how about manning up here, mr. president and use your mandate to bring this country together to stop us from becoming greece. >> yes. >> man up, barack obama. strong words. >> he has a chance to be an historic president. what makes us greece? it's not because the tax code is at 35% versus 39.6. what's going to make this country greece, like every other western nation, retiring at 10,000 a day in terms of baby boomer, three workers for every retiree, in 20 years we'll have two. medicare and social security are about $30 trillion underfunded. if you did what tip o'neill and ronald reagan chose to do, reform entitlements, we become the most dominant place on the planet pretty quickly. so what i would plead with the president to do is use this mandate. redo revenue, wh

critical of susan rice in the republican party in the senate, in particular john mccain and lindsey graham, if you look at the records of susan rice versus john kerry, you would assume that ideologically susan rice, a little bit closer to a mccain or a graham, a little more of an interventionist, if you will. think about where she was on libya. where john kerry, much more cautious, as many veterans are when it comes to military conflicts, when it comes to u.s. intervention. so i think that, you know, the president certainly was getting advice saying, this is going to be a tough lift. you can get her confirmed. but just keep that in mind. you've got a lot of issues to go through, congress. and if you don't think she is the best person over and above everybody else, ask yourself whether you want that kind of fight or not. so look, i think that susan rice handled this very well. and now his position -- the next big opening is hers. >> you're our political director, chuck. what does this do to the republican party? who got absolutely skewered in the last campaign, especially among voters who w

with three of the great legendary senators john mccain, joe lieberman and lindsey graham. >> it means old. >> yes, it does. i'll stand by my comments. >> america has moved incredibly fast from the time all three of you have been in the senate even. you're now seeing same-sex marriage being legalized in many states. do you think that young people don't care nearly as much about it as their parents. >> part of it is generational. part is the media. you're casting movies and tv shows where people are same-sex couples are funny, charming and kind. the point is that you can be funny, charming and kind and be in love with someone of the same sex. what's the role of the law here? we're not talking about an academic discussion. when is it proper for the government to set boundary in terms of relationships? it's clearly proper to say you can't kill someone. i have no problem with people passing on their property to someone they love. i have no problem with people having the ability to engage in a free and open life. part of this is religious. in my state, we're not going to change the traditional

right now. two key senators, republican senators john mccain of arizona and lindsey graham of south carolina. senators, thanks to both of you for coming in. let's go to both of you, senator mccain first. i know you were angry at the tone of the president's comments today, but give us your sense. are you going to vote for this legislation, assuming there's a deal? >> if there's a deal, obviously. if it does not have at least a delay in implementation of sequestration, which the secretary of defense has said will be devastating to national security, then i probably cannot vote for that, unless that's included in the deal. >> if it's a two or three-month delay, sequestration going into effect, in other words, those billions of dollars in defense cuts that are supposed to go into effect right away, if it's delayed for two or three months, is that good enough to get your vote tonight? >> i think i would have to see the rest of the package obviously, wolf. i want to support anything that would avert what's going to happen if we don't act. but at the same time, i can't vote for something t

senator kelly ayotte along with her fellow senators, lindsey graham and john mccain in a fairly blistering assessment of the report that came out from the accountability review board on what happened in benghazi. and we have a couple of experts here who can talk about what she is senators had to say just now. judy miller, fox news contribute tore, who has made many, many trips reporting to that part of the world. rick grenell, spokesman for four u.s. ambassadors to the united nations. in particular senator graham suggested, i mean he was asking the question, essentially, what did the president know and when did he know it? there are some real questions to be asked raised by this report, this accountability review board report about what happened in benghazi. >> yeah. we were taking notes. i think actually the headline for me was that secretary clinton may have not sat for interviews for this report. senator graham was questioning whether or not she actually was interviewed. if that's the case, jon, that's outrageous that we have a sitting secretary of state who said, i take responsibility
